What is a Domain Name?
A domain name is the human readable form of an internet address (e.g. mydomain.com), which contains a combination of letters and numbers. Although domain names are (usually) easy for us to remember, devices on the internet are uniquely identified by an Internet Protocol (IP) address. A Domain Name System (DNS) is directory service that maps domain names to IP addresses and distributes this information to other DNS services across the internet.
The allocation of domain names is managed by the International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). When you register a domain name, you actually agree to "rent" that name for one or more years. As long as you keep your registration up to date (paid for) you are able to use that domain name.Domain Name Registration
In order to register a domain name, you must go through an
registrar. Almanor Computer Solutions is not a registrar, however, there are dozens of accredited registrars from which you can choose. We can register your domain name and configure the DNS server addresses for a $35.00 charge.
